Be Empty And Full Of Possibilities

July 1, 2015

Think for a moment about your favorite bowl. Okay, maybe you don’t have a favorite bowl anymore. You gave that up when you were 8.

Maybe now you have a favorite coffee mug or teacup or beer glass. Maybe yours keeps things hot or cold for extended periods of time.

Because you like it so much, even when it’s empty, you can imagine it being full of some good stuff that you savor.

Your mouth is probably watering just thinking about that tasty sip, gulp or spoonful of magical, wonderful good stuff.

Something that just makes you feel all wobbly or mmmm good inside. Maybe it leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling. Or maybe you get a dose of cool, calm confidence. No matter how you describe it, I’ll bet that it’s a magnificent moment that you would like to have over and over again. Why? It leaves you satisfied.

And you got all of that from your thoughts about an empty vessel. Our favorite mug or bowl has a lot to teach us. Just like that treasured teacup, when we are empty, we are full of possibility. That’s perfect balance.

Taoists call this the uncarved block. In ancient Africa, it was called Nun or Nu. It’s a state of infinite potential. Imagine if we considered the absence of something an indication of the potential for everything. Whaaat???  Yeah, when you’ve got nothing, you’ve got everything.

In Universal Balance, nothing and everything coexist.

Many creation stories refer to primordial waters, darkness or a state of no-thing-ness in the Universe. Nothing existed, yet the potential for everything was present.

I used to teach a workshop for teenage mothers called, “Not Just Child’s Play: Using Your Imagination to Improve Your Life”. We practiced imagining, visualizing our goals being manifested in our lives. The practice opened them to the power of their minds and hearts. The young moms learned that everything begins with a thought, a mental image, an idea, something invisible yet it has the potential to become visible.

The invisible and visible are partners, co-creators as we design the lives that we crave. We are literally like art supply stores. We have canvases, jars, t-shirts, bowls, an unending range of mediums that we can use to manifest tangible representations of happiness, joy, success, growth, optimism, faith, focus. You name it. You can make it happen.

My mother often quoted a verse from Proverbs, “Where there is no vision, the people perish”. Your visionary power is an essential ingredient for transforming the invisible into the visible.

Yes, transformation takes time, energy and faith.

Balance urges us to know where to focus and offers us a pathway to the faith we need to shift from idea to tangible experiences.

Faith is the ability to find continuity between the visible and invisible.

Keep the faith. See the results.

Many of us can remember biblical verses that say we’re made in the image of the divine. On a physical level, you look like your mother, your father, your ancestors. On an invisible level, you are a reflection of divine energy and power. The same energy that created everything in the heavens and on earth is a part of us.

As descendants of the Universe, we embody the creative codes for infinite possibilities. Consider how you will you use the power within you today. Balance your energies. Shift your focus. Envision the life you want and attract it to you.

You can.
