As a growing entrepreneur, I spend time in workshops, masterminds, webinars, books, and conversations with other entrepreneurs. I’m busy learning and putting strategies into action.
I’m learning how to make the picture of my business that lives in my head and heart into the picture that I see in my life everyday. I’m learning there’s some magic involved in growing a business. I want to make my invisible thoughts appear in my everyday life.
Yeah, I know building a business requires work. You have to put your nose to the grindstone as some stay. You have to invest sweat equity. You need a plan. You have to take action on your plan.
Not only do you need a plan, you need a vision. You need to feel what’s it’s like to be a leader in your industry. You have to know what your client will have after they’ve purchased you product or service.
So quiet as it’s kept, you have to be a bit of a fortune teller. If you sell coffee, how do you present it in such a way that your customer feels uplifted and so yummy not only do they come back, they invite friends and they give gift cards for your coffee as presents to people they really love.
If you’re a coach, how do you partner with someone so they realize they have everything they need to accomplish their goals? What do you do to get someone to realize that they are the power that makes their life the one they really love living?
And once you know your audience and what problem you can solve for them, you have to figure out how to speak to them so they realize that you’re on the same page. You have to attract them.
And the last time I checked, when people are attracted to something or someone, there’s some soul stirring, magical, “yes that’s so right for me” stuff going on inside them. Like so many songs say, something just “feels so right”.
But you can’t see attraction. You don’t see the magnetic waves making contact with your customer and drawing them in. But when they show up excited or wait in line for days at an Apple store to get the latest iPhone, you know a connection was made.
On some level, building our business depends on very powerful invisible forces like vision and attraction. That’s probably not as magical as it might seem at first. Everything begins with a thought. Even if you get dressed in a rush, you had to think about the outfit before you put it on.
Thoughts are based on deeper beliefs. So one of the most powerful things we can do as an entrepreneur is to get really clear about our beliefs. We have to know the beliefs that support our goals and the ones that keep us from our goals.
Why? Because sometimes we have competing beliefs. That is, we give ourselves mixed messages. This creates what my Mama calls the, “I didn’t know If I was coming or going” effect.
For example, you are looking to sign a new client. Part of you is saying, “Yes, this is great. Go for the contract, it’s a good deal” and at the same time there’s a competing voice saying, “That’s too big of a contract. You can’t make that happen”.
Are you coming or going?
So many business coaches talk about mastering your mindset. Fabienne Frederickson has a retreat and now a training dedicated to the topic.
Jim Rohn says, “Your income is determined by your personal philosophy”. He says it’s the guidance system of your mind that helps us minimize dangers and maximize opportunities. We do things based on what we “know”.
It’s our beliefs that are running our show. They become thoughts and actions or inaction.
One of the first books I read on mindset was Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain. She says that form follows thought. Your ideas are blueprints that guide the energy to flow into form in our physical world.
I know you’ve seen this happen. You’re thinking about someone and they call. Or you need a red scarf and a friend calls and says, “I’ve got something for you” then shows up with a red scarf. Or you meet someone who develops websites when you need one for your business.
Feeling skeptical? No worries. You can test this idea. Pam Grout shows you how in E-Squared: Nine Do-It-Yourself Energy Experiments That Prove Your Thoughts Create Your Reality.
As you set goals for you business, monitor your thoughts. Explore your beliefs. What do you have to believe in order to accomplish your goals? Do you believe?
Get your thoughts in order. Take action on your mindset. Change your mind. Change your life. Build the life you want to live.
