It's Good To Be You

Early in life, I came to know and understand my life purpose is to be a helper, healer. In fact, in Greek, my name Sandra means helper of mankind. If we go further back in time to ancient Africa/Egypt, my name means child or noble of Ra, the light & power of God to manifest. The Dagara of west Africa would very likely say that my mother clearly heard my spirit’s calling and chose the right name for me. It’s a blessing when you name is a reminder of who you are, your life purpose.

My identity as a helper-healer is always pulsing, vibrating and creating a tempo for me. It’s what makes my heart sing and my spirit dance to the sweetest rhythm. This is my truth. I have a range of missions that serve as my avenues for making my truth real & tangible. Teaching and advising college students are on my list of missions.

Almost without fail, when a student comes to my office to review an exam, they will say something like, “I thought that was the right answer. I don’t know why I chose the other one.” Most times the student who comes to review an exam has studied and is deeply concerned that their grade does not reflect their effort. So, we talk a little about how self-doubt can lead us down the wrong road and how we can be more trusting of ourselves.

I learned one of my most important lesson in self-trust from my Mama who taught me, "Follow your first mind." In addition to helping me access the knowledge I studied preparing for a test, this guidance took me deeper inside myself. Parents have these mystical ways of leading us to our inner treasures, our truth. We are mind, body & spirit. For me, Spirit is that inner light, our portion of the divine all-knowing and infinite Oneness/Creator/ Universe/God. It’s the source of all we know and all we haven’t yet discovered that we know. It’s our genius. If you explore the origins of the word genius you will find it described as our tutelary deity, that is, our guardian spirit and innate ability.

My mother trusted my genius even when I doubted myself. She wanted me to know that my mind and body are connected to my Spirit so whatever answers I need are always available to me. I often tell my goddaughter that anything that exists in the Universe is knowable and doable. As my Taoist teacher says, we simply have to meet the energy requirement, tune in to the right frequency.

The Spirit knows what the mind and body may be working to remember. You’ve got something that the whole world needs. This is your truth. If you’re wondering how to bring it out, your Spirit has all the answers that you need. Listen. Tune in. Lock onto your power source frequency. Feel your genius. Acknowledge your truth. Be the one that only you can be. It’s good to be you.
